NEWS: Better Declare All Medications Purchased In Mexico US Customs and Border Protection officers have begun fining persons who do not declare all medications purchased in Mexico. Last weekend there were three separate incidents of fines being levied against US citizens who did not declare all the medications they purchased. These incidents happened at the Andrade port of entry and the people were walking across the border. One fine was $11,780 and the other two were $2,000 each. Although the incidents took place at a land border crossing it could happen to cruise passengers as well. Medications are much cheaper in both Mexico and Canada so if you are purchasing them its better to declare all of them when asked. Travelers face stiff civil penalties or possible criminal prosecution for failing to declare items at an US port or entry. Always declare everything acquired abroad. Lack of knowledge is not an acceptable excuse.
